A few weeks back, something made me really, really sad. What was that? Creating a Yelp listing for The Ship. You see, I loved this bar's original iteration as an honest-to-goodness speakeasy - and thus not something that would have a Yelp profile. But they opted to go legit and get themselves a liquor license, so I added them to Yelp. Finally, it's time to review it. Long story short? The Ship is a consistently great time. It's an amazing space, with design nods to its nautical theme, but nothing so over the top that it becomes garish. There's regularly great live music entertainment, and though the crowd is thinner now that it's gone honest (as is the cigarette smoke), I still generally like the people with whom I'll be spending the night drinking! Speaking of drinks, they're basic but they're priced quite reasonably! I wouldn't go here expecting a fancy cocktail, but they poured me a nice glass of rye, served neat. Beers range from yard to craft. With the entrance in a back alley parking lot in the West Bottoms, this place can be somewhat difficult to find, but now the huge vintage-style marquee certainly makes locating the door easier. I guess there are some advantages to being able to promote your existence. And there's often a cover, so be prepared. A lot of my friends were worried that The Ship would sink once it became official. It certainly doesn't have quite the same anything-goes vibe. But that doesn't mean it's not worth visiting. I'm always happy to return!

I went to The Ship for a private, special musical event featuring the band "Making Movies". Free drinks were being served for the event so I can't say much about the service, selection or prices, but the space is amazing! Tucked away in the West Bottoms, you are transported to an old ship. You can pretend you are on a voyage and forget about things for awhile. There is outdoor seating to enjoy the breeze and even bar stools at a window to look out upon, well, a parking lot and the back of some old buildings, but if you like the West Bottoms, that's an OK view. It has a small stage and it was fun hearing Making Movies in that venue. I can't wait to go back and check out the space again.

What a great find! I had been in this place as part of a wedding reception at the foundation, but had no idea it operated as a bar on its own. Stumbled upon The Ship after a trip to the edge of hell. Really enjoyed popping in for a few beers. Albeit not very cold beers I must confess. This did not change my opinion though. Loved the atmosphere, music and dancing!

The Ship is Rad! Pros: - It looks great - there is always something fun going - people are nice - heated outdoor patio - andddd they cut a nice lime; the cocktails are top notch!

Couple of my friends treat this divey bar like their personal living room, especially on the Royal's away game days. They've been coming here since it was a speakeasy and even though I'm the new face they let me stay. Gone a couple times solo and if you do chose to roll in this way belly up to the bar. Although the bar is on the smallish side it works , elbow to elbow with the fellow patrons makes for some stories in it's colorful history. If you walk in and think man this place is a cool old $#!& hole, well it's been around since the 1930's. It was "The Ship" then too. It closed for awhile in the 90's and than all the cool nautical themed stuff was found rotting away in a warehouse. Restored, character intact it's open for business today to the public. No food served. Although their beverage selection might be considered limited they have my preference and their priced reasonably. Live musicians have killed it on their small stage. Not gonna lie at night rolling in it's like the stuff straight out of a Freddy flick. Being that it is in the haunted house district just park as close as you can. The entrance of course is on the backside of the building with it's huge self titled antique sign . The front of the building does have a small sign that you will probably miss but the 4ft hanging pistol you will not. Parking lot is pot hole riddled, take it slowly. Thanked my lucky stars for GPS, tricky to find but worth the hunt.

If you hadn't read about it you might not find it or might not walk in. Go ahead - you'll be glad you did. You will feel right at home. The best bar no one knows about.

An experience in it's own... The Ship will usually leave you with a story to tell even if it's about the cheap drinks. There are many quirks to this bar. If its night out the outside looks pretty shady and scary. Its in the west bottoms which has minimal lighting and placed in the back of a gravel parking lot scattered with ponds of water if it's been raining. After dodging puddles and getting closer to the obnoxious marquee you can usually find an interesting crowd hanging outside for a smoke break. The entrance is up some stairs that lead you to a porch made with rusted tin and old wood similar to most of the warehouse style buildings in the west bottoms. I think there is a loading dock across the entry steps. Just think creepy industrial concrete jungle metal stuff; that's the vibe. Once you get into the bar itself it is dimly lit and themed after... a ship, possibly more like a submarine but definitely some sort of water vehicle. It is cozy inside and the drinks are cheap but limited on selection and they have jazz! The people watching is great and overall its a good place to bring friends who are somewhat open minded and not scared to go into a bar in a dark alleyway, leave your parents at home for this one. Reccomended for when you need to change up your drinking scenery.
